Who’s Giggin’ will be a global gig listings website run by music enthusiasts for their own city or town.
I created the logo & branding, designed the user interface and coded the front end of the website, the website will be going live in the coming weeks.
My issues with similar listing sites were:
With these problems in mind I approached the design of the site with specific goals.
Each region is localised using a background image of the city or town, and displaying the region name and location in-keeping with the branding.
To group listings by date and use colour is used to visually order the listings, today’s gigs being red hot, tomorrows gigs a warm orange, then yellow, green and blue. Gigs listed beyond the coming five days are coloured grey.
Minimal information is displayed relating to a listing, just the headline act’s name, the venue and price. When the user selects a listing the full information loads into the site in place of the listing information.
Open-source typefaces are also used throughout the design, Blackout is used for the branding and will allow the administrators to prepare regional banners wthout the worry of font licensing and distribution issues. While Museo Slab 500 is embedded with the @fontface CSS declaration for dynamic date text for listings. The rest of the body text is specifies as Helvetica or Arial, whichever is present on the users computer.
