The Nimbus Centre is a research centre comprised of two smaller research centres, AWS, and Tec Centre, which will open in the third quarter of 2010 in Bishopstown, Cork City.
Research carried out in Nimbus focuses on networking embedded systems and the Nimbus Centre studies how these devices can be effectively embedded into every day artefacts and how they can be networked to create new technology and services to reduce energy consumption, improve health and hygiene, improve traffic congestion and transportation safety and create intelligent objects in general.
The brief was to create the Logo, design the Business Cards, Letterhead, and website homepage (the website is being developed by a third party.)
My solution for the Nimbus Centre is a simple one. The radiating dot in the lowercase āiā embodies the type of research which the Nimbus Centre is focused on, embedded systems.
I carried the radiating motif forward and applied it as a spot varnish on the business cards, which would appear invisible until reflected in the light.
The website and letterhead share common elements. I approached them with the intention of not having an intimidating block-like look which the previous individual centres branding were defined by.
